The Community Improvement Commission’s semiannual Bravo! Awards for exterior maintenance or improvement at Hutchinson homes and businesses were announced at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

This year’s Fall awards went to homeowners John and Denise Moore, 201 E. 19th Ave.; Christopher and Margaret Akins, 111 W. 18th Ave.; Jack and Shirley McClelland, 1020 E. 12th Ave.; Kimberly and Mark Hopengardner, 1809 N. Main St.; Palmeiro Investments for a house at 312 E. Avenue B; and New Beginnings for the first two units in the Town Homes of Santa Fe Place, 215 W. 5th Ave.

Business winners were: Hutchinson Community College, for the renovated Bob and Lou Peel Allied Health Center at 1 E. 9th Ave., and Interfaith Housing Services for its renovated office at 1326 E. Avenue A.

Several were present to receive their awards from Mayor Cindy Proett.

The awards are based on a striking appearance in a neighborhood, long-term maintenance and improvements or recent substantial improvements.

The Painting a Better Future Award, for a volunteer group that has helped residents paint their homes under the city’s Brush Up Hutch program, went to United Way of Reno County.

On Aug. 23, United Way Work Day, volunteers from the organization helped paint four houses for low-income owners who went through the Brush Up Hutch program to get reimbursed for purchase of exterior paint.
