HRR - HOMEOWNER REPAIR AND REHABILITATION PROGRAM
IHS understands the housing repair needs in our communities. Many people are on Social Security or other fixed incomes and cannot afford the upkeep on their homes. A new roof is out of the question, but the rain continues to fall. IHS utilizes volunteers and funding from private donors, churches, special events, and various grants to make repairs on homes owned and occupied by low income residents of the counties we serve.
Each year we organize and supervise nearly 20,000 hours of volunteer service on these projects.
Priority of service is given for needs which serve to:
· prevent homelessness due to the condition of a house
· eliminate health and life safety hazards in homes involving children and elderly
· make homes accessible and usable for persons with special needs such as physical disabilities
In 2008 we completed 47 Homeowner Repair and Rehab Projects including 17 accessible ramps and bathrooms
In 2007, we completed 34 Homeowner Repair and Rehab Projects including 7 accessible repairs for persons with disabilities.
This past year, 2009, we completed 44 Homeowner Repair and Rehab Projects, including 6 accessibility repairs for persons with disabilities.
