WHAT IS THE KANSAS ACCESSIBILITY MODIFICATION PROGRAM?
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
To be eligible for KAMP assistance, the following conditions must be met:
- The applicant is a Kansas resident.
- The applicant’s annual household income must not exceed 80% of the median income for the county of residence, as established by the U.S. Dept of Housing and Urban Development.
- The property to be modified is the applicant’s primary residence.
- The applicant’s physical disabilities are verified by a physician.
- If rental property, the applicant’s landlord must provide written agreement.
- Homeowners are allowed a maximum of $7,500 for repairs, while renters are allowed a total of $4,000.
WHAT MODIFICATIONS ARE ALLOWED?
Examples of housing modifications allowed by KAMP include:
- Installation of bathroom grab-bars, roll-in showers or raised toilet fixtures
- Construction of wheelchair ramps
- Widening of doorways
- Sidewalk construction
- Moving a utility room from the basement
WHAT IS THE EMERGENCY REPAIR PROGRAM?
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
As a homeowner, you may be eligible for assistance under ERP, if you meet the following conditions:
- Your household income does not exceed 60% of the area median income.
- You have not filed for bankruptcy or defaulted on a mortgage in the preceding three years.
- You own the home, do not rent the home or use the home for business purposes.
WHAT TYPES OF REPAIRS ARE COVERED?
Generally speaking, repairs covered by ERP are intended to ensure that the residence is fit for continued safe occupancy, not to restore the house to minimum property standards. Examples of repairs covered include:
- An inoperable furnace
- A leaky roof
- Hazardous structural conditions
- Unsafe electrical & plumbing conditions
Repairs will be performed using the applicant’s utilities. The contractor must have access to the premises within 10 days from the date the contractor is available to begin work, and must not deviate from the approved bid specifications, even if changes are requested by the applicant.
