Emergency Home Repairs and Accessibility Modifications
“After receiving assistance for a new roof, I no longer have to put out buckets to catch water that leaked in.
I really appreciate their help.”
~John, Great Bend, KS
IHS is currently partnering with Kansas Housing Resources Corporation to provide funding for emergency home repairs and accessibility modifications for people all across Kansas through our CASH program. The Emergency Repair or Accessibility Modification (ER/AM) Program provides qualifying homeowners a 3:1 match of the homeowners’ savings up to $2,000. This gives them a maximum total of $8,000 for an Emergency Repair or Accessibility Modification to their home.
The Emergency Repair Program provides assistance to eligible homeowners who find themselves faced with a condition determined to be dangerous to the life, health, property and safety of the occupants of the home. Unsafe electrical wiring, a broken heater in winter, or structural conditions that are a major defect or are life-threatening and considered unsafe are examples of emergencies.
Accessiblity modifications may involve converting or adapting your environment so you or a loved one can live independently. Examples include adding handrails on both sides of a staircase and outside steps, installing ramps for so you can come and go from your home by wheelchair or scooter, building a walk-in shower or lowering kitchen counters. These types of home modifications enable people with disabilities and older adults to “age in place” and live independently.
Together, we transform the lives of homeowners by providing them with critical home repairs, accessibility modifications and energy-efficient upgrades, improving the safety and health of their homes.
